4. Fashion Reporter's Language

Feb 21, 2016

Vanessa Friedman along with other writers over the style section of NY Times are important in the fashion industry since it is their words setting the tone in order for readers to comprehend the trends showcased by designers and the overall direction the fashion industry is moving towards.

So for instance, I decided to cover Vanessa Friedman's - who is the fashion director and chief fashion critic of NY Times - article on the fashion featured during this year's Super Bowl. To sum up the article, Friedman noted how Italian designs were mostly worn by celebrities Beyonce and Lady Gaga as perhaps a preview to the upcoming Milan Fashion Week.

As mentioned, the language featured in such articles are important in the fashion industry. Consumers, who are the readers, will often understand fashion in terms of silhouette, design/details, color, fabric, as well as  creative "jargon," which is unique to the fashion industry. So I will break down the article using these categories.

1. Silhouette
 Trouser suit, platforms, leather jacket

2. Design/Details
Sparkly, gold straps, gold chains, tie-dye

3. Color
Red-white-and blue, gold, black

4. Fabric
Lurex, leather

5. Creative "Jargon"
Pajama outfit, flower child ensemble

As you can see, using the correct language and descriptive terms is vital in the fashion business world and gives the consumers a clear idea of the product that the writer is describing.

Thanks for reading!
