2. Key Item for Fall 2016 (The Midi Dress)

So with NYFW happening, theres's bloggers and photographers roaming around the streets seeking out the latest trends whether it's on the runway or in the streets. Though many of us are focused on getting through winter and prepping for spring (can't wait to see everyone's interpretation of Pantone's colors of the year) there's also some of use active in the fashion industry looking forward towards Fall 2016.

After doing research using forecasting services like Fashion Snoops and Trend Council, I found that a trend predicted to prevail in fall of 2016 is romantic goth. Fashion Snoops describes the trend as a "darkly romantic story filled with mystery and enchantment."

Victorian-styled blouses, velvet, ornate floral designs are the essence of this upcoming fall trend. I love the color palette - deep jewel tones and violets dominate. Alberta Feretti's fall collection is like a real life fairytale with inspiration from the Italian Renaissance as models glided down the runway dressed in velvet, long silhouettes, and brocades.

An key item I pulled from this trend is the midi dress. According to Fashion Snoops, A-line dresses that hit below the knee will be a key item for next fall. I think that dresses with a simple A-line silhouette paired with high necklines not only channel a romantic message but bring an element of sophistication.

Here's some midi dresses from Alberta Feretti's current fall collection  and I feel that the lace details and ruffles are very romantic and pair nicely with materials such as velvet and jacquard. The high neck certainly brings a Victorian element along with intricate embroidery and appliques. These dresses certainly aren't for the typical Cinderella but instead tell of a dark and enchanting fairytale.

Overall, dresses have always been an essential garment and seasonally, details, cut, trims, and length are modified. It will definitely be exciting to see how this trend is interpreted by other designers and retailers as it trickles down.
