Glossier Review

Jul 30, 2016

Hi all, long time no see. I'm sorry for being super MIA but I don't know, ever since summer has started, I have been less productive with blogging but my life still remains busy with going to the gym, work, and making trips to NYC to see my boyfriend.

Nonetheless, I'm back with a review on a brand whose aesthetic caught my attention (baby pink is one of my favorite colors). Many of you may have heard of the brand Glossier through Instagram or you may have read their blog, Into The Gloss - either way, they are a beauty brand all about simplicity and not caking your face with unnecessary ingredients that could clog up your pores.

They have makeup products like foundation, lipstick, highlighter, and concealer that all provide sheer, breathable coverage that is easy on the skin. I haven't tried those out but I was really interested in their skincare line because I have acne-prone skin and I'm currently healing, what with the angry red marks and all, so this is what interested me. I am so tired of using products that are too harsh on my skin and rather than effectively clean it, they just irritate my skin to no end.

I have 3 products to review: their face cleanser, lip balm, and moisturizer/primer.

Let's begin with their Milk Jelly Cleanser. It's described as a daily face wash that can be used on dry or wet skin and can remove makeup (not waterproof however). The consistency reminds me of Cetaphil but a little bit thicker. I haven't tried this on dry skin but when i read other reviews, I heard it's better to use on wet skin.

So I wash my face with this twice a day but at night, if I had makeup on earlier, I will wash my face with an oil cleanser (my favorite is Boscia) to dissolve my makeup and then use the jelly cleanser to wash off the residue and thoroughly clean my face.

So far, I've been liking this a lot. It smells like roses which could still potentially be irritable to some people who have sensitive skin or just don't like scented products. I personally don't mind and I feel that this cleanser is more effective than Cetaphil because I always feel like after washing my face with it, my skin still feels yucky. Glossier's face cleanser leaves my skin feeling clean and soft.

The next product I have is their Priming Moisturizer. Now even though I have acne-prone skin, my face is typically dry so I am always on the lookout for a moisturizer that doesn't clog my pores or is too light.

I think that this moisturizer is perfect for the summer time whether you have oily, combo, or dry skin. It's no heavy at all and after washing my face with their Milk Jelly cleanser, I will immediately apply this moisturizer to my skin once it is dry. It's super light on the skin but at the same time my skin feels soft and supple.

The one thing I gotta say is that when you look at this product on their website, it claims to have an anti-redness complex to soothe and calm inflammation and visibly reduce redness. This is probably why it's called a priming moisturizer. And I will admit that was what had me so excited to try this product out. However, after applying it to my face, the post-acne red marks on my cheeks and forehead are still red. I mean, nowhere on the site does it claim to help acne marks so maybe I'm reading too much into it and I believe the product does help if you have overall redness on your face - but it may not work as to target specific red areas of your face. And believe me, the red marks on my face are RED.

Nonetheless, the moisturizer does leave my skin dewy - not oily - and fresh feeling. As a primer....eh, that's a different story. I treat this product as primarily my moisturizer before I apply sunscreen and then a primer before my foundation. I feel like this is not enough to act as a barrier between my skin and the makeup, but hey, if you already have an acne-free, almost flawless complexion, then maybe you can use this as primer. Oh and speaking of suncreen, I really hope Glossier releases one! I never leave my house without any SPF (protect yo skin you guys).

Finally, I have their Coconut Balm Dotcom. It's described as a universal skin salve and guys, this is the product that saved my dry, peeling lips. It can be 100 degrees outside but my lips be dry and rough as if it's winter. This product is very concentrated (think Vaseline on steroids haha) so I only apply this to the areas that really need it.

This was the first product I purchased from them sometime back in the spring, when my skin was feeling really dry and tight and I would have these dry patches on my face. It was irritating to say the least so I used this balm on those areas and within two days, the dry patches were gone and my skin felt like skin again. Seriously this is a godsend that I cannot wait to use in the wintertime.

They have regular one which is scentless but I picked up their coconut flavored balm and IT SMELLS SOOO GOOD. I typically stay away from coconut only because the smell used to be to intense for me and I just never liked it. However, Glossier's balm isn't too overwhelming and I'm just in love with it. They recently released three new flavors: Mint, Rose, and Cherry so be sure to go on their website to check it out!

I hope my review was thorough enough and helped maybe some of you when it comes to deciding what products to get from Glossier. It's an amazing brand with adorable packaging and if you're tired of using products with too many chemicals or ingredients, definitely try out Glossier's line!
