Review: TruSelf Organics Detoxifying Mask

Jun 1, 2015

In preparation for my trip to Hawaii to visit my friend, Joyce (I actually should be sleeping right now…oh well) I've been taking extra care of my skin and body.

Lately, I've been interested in trying TruSelf Organics Detoxifying Mask after hearing many Instagramers rave about how their skin glowed after using this and how it cleared their skin. I am obsessed with masks so I thought I'd give it a try

(Warning: Ignore the yellow undertones of these photos. I was so excited to share my opinion on this product that I completely forgo the editing lol)

The mask arrived sitting prettily on top of this cute bed of sparkly blue confetti. I momentarily forgot about the mask because I was fascinated by the little crimped pieces of papers - I can have the attention span of a three year old haha!

What surprised me about the mask is that it actually comes in a powder. Now the interesting and unique characteristic of this mask is that you actually have to mix some powder with water to create the mask. Some might view this as extra work because you have to get a bowl, a measuring spoon (or a regular spoon) and of course adding water.

However I can guarantee you it is not messy as it sounds. What I do is take a teaspoon of the powder and add equal parts of water (as the directions mention). It kinda comes out a bit too thick for my liking so I usually add more water till I get the consistency I want, which is usually not too thick nor too watery.

I have to say, it's a fun process because it allows you to experiment and you get a fresh mask each time. According to the directions, you can also use apple cider vinegar, which can be purchased on their website. I heard that it really aids in the detoxifying process of the mask but I am afraid it might be too harsh on my skin so for now, I'll just stick to water.

Now as for the ingredients, it's pretty simple: a mix of different clays (kaolin, Moroccan red clay, Dead Sea clay, just to name a few) Epsom salt and 100% collagen. As you can see, no chemicals what so ever. I was super hyped.

I think the mixture I created was a bit too thick so it took longer to dry. It says to allow it to fully dry which could be anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes. I can't exactly recall how long I had it on, but I believe I tried to keep it on for 30.

Oh man…it was difficult doing so.

Not in a bad way though, it's just the mask instantly tightens up and like a magnet, I can feel all that nasty gunk being pulled out and no I am not bull shitting you. I've tried so many masks that claim to do so but I think they just want you to believe that it's doing that to your skin not because it's just drying.

With that being said, this mask really drew out the impurities and while it was a bit uncomfortable, I had to let it fully dry before rinsing it off.

And let me tell you, my skin has never felt so good. The lighting in my house was really terrible then so I didn't want to take a picture of my skin without actually showing you the difference this mask has made to it.

My skin felts so much lighter, bouncier and softer. I noticed that the redness around my cheeks and where I have blemishes significantly diminished and my pores were definitely tightened. The product claims to also treat wrinkles but unfortunately, I can't say anything about it since I do not have any.

I believe with continued use, my skin will definitely improve in texture and appearance. The next day, my skin looked even better and applying makeup became a breeze and I didn't have to use as much.

Pros:

- All natural, will not irritate sensitive skin (but if you have sensitive skin, I'd suggest not using apple cider vinegar to activate the mask and avoid keeping it on for more than 20 minutes)

- Affordable (Only $19.50 on their website)

- Tightens pores

- Softens and brightens skin

- Clears up blemishes

Cons:

- Some may not like the preparation process

- Can be a little uncomfortable after some time (suggestion: if it is your first time using this, don't keep it on for 30 minutes but maybe 15 or even 20).

Conclusion: I would so repurchase this mask. For me, I don't mind making the mask because I don't have to worry about the risk of it ever drying out on me. Out of all the face masks I've tried, this one is all natural and more effective in detoxifying my skin. I highly recommend this mask to anybody wanting to try something new for their skin that is not only natural but affordable and very effective.

I hope my review (and poor quality photos haha) is somewhat helpful and I hope all of you have a great week! Now I'm off to catch some z's before my plane…hopefully ^~^
